Approved by the Church on September 5, 1998, the Association Jeanne
Jugan offers to lay men and women the opportunity:
- To share in
the spiritual riches of the Little Sisters of the Poor,
- To participate
in the Little Sisters’ apostolic mission of hospitality
to the aged poor, and
- To help spread the charism of Jeanne Jugan where they live
and work.
The Association is open to Catholic men and women of at least
eighteen years of age.
Following a time of initial formation, membership is sealed by
an annual promise:
"In your presence, Lord Jesus, with your grace and through
Mary's intercession, I commit myself to the Association Jeanne
Jugan of the Little Sisters of the Poor, for one year. I promise
to serve you in the elderly with joy and love, by following the
example of humility and confidence left to us by Jeanne Jugan."
Each member of the Association is called to develop personally
the spiritual attitudes which Jeanne Jugan lived:
- Lively faith
and confidence in Divine Providence;
- Personal love for Christ,
recognized in the aged poor;
- Forgetfulness of self, joy and a spirit
of praise.
Forms of service are diverse and may include participation in
certain tasks of hospitality; helping with pastoral, recreational
and cultural activities; assistance with projects in support of
the mission; direct service in a mission house of the Congregation;
or the offering of one's prayers and sufferings for the intentions
of the Congregation.
