Charitable Contributions Cover 35% of the Operating Budget

Thank you for your interest in supporting the Little Sisters of the Poor in the ministry of caring for the aged poor. You may make a gift through any of the following convenient means. Each of these methods will also allow you to make a gift in memory or in honor of a loved one or friend.

The cost of caring for the elderly in a manner respectful of their dignity far exceeds the income received from the Residents' pensions, Social Security and Medicaid. Each year we must raise over 35% of our operating costs plus all capital improvement and equipment dollars.

To cover this constant deficit and to make necessary facility repairs, we rely on your generosity.

We pray daily that you will join our family of benefactors and share the joy of caring for the needy aged. As Little Sisters of the Poor we devote our lives to making the elderly happy, but we cannot do it alone. Blessed Jeanne Jugan, our Congregation's foundress, went out begging each day to provide for the needs of the elderly who she welcomed into her home.

Just like her we live from donation to donation, counting on the charity of benefactors who sustain our mission to be here day and night caring for our Residents. We rely completely on Divine Providence, having been instructed by Blessed Jeanne Jugan to avoid an endowment.

How to make a Contribution
Gifts by cash, check (Checks should be made payable to Little Sisters of the Poor) or credit card are the simplest methods of giving. The Little Sisters of the Poor can accept credit cards online, by mail, over the phone or in person. To make a gift using your credit card, please click here or contact:

Corporate and matching gifts are most welcome. Many companies have matching gift programs that will match your contribution on a 1 to 1 or even a 2 to 1 and sometimes a 3 to 1 basis. Some companies will contribute to the Little Sisters of the Poor because of your volunteer participation. Matching gift forms are available from the company where you work or from which you retired. They should be filled out, signed, and sent to the Little Sisters with your gift. We will take it from there and let you know when the Match is sent to us.

Every year, the Little Sisters of the Poor receive meaningful gifts from individuals who have made provisions in their will, trust or other estate plan to provide support for our ministry.

You can provide under your will or living trust agreement not only for your loved ones but for organizations like the Little Sisters of the Poor. When making or revising your will or trust you should obtain the assistance of an attorney. Your attorney will be able to tell you how you can:

  • Give a specific dollar amount
  • Give a share or entire residue of your estate
  • Give personal property

Should you decide to leave the Little Sisters in your estate plan, you may wish to provide the following language to your attorney in preparation of any will:

Form of Bequest
“I give to the Little Sister of the Poor- Home’s Name, Homes Location the sum of (dollar amount) for general use and purposes.”

Form of Residuary Clause
“I give the residue of my estate, both real and personal (or a specified fraction or percentage thereof), to the Little Sisters of the Poor- Home’s Name, Home’s Location for general use and purpose”

If you provide for the Little Sisters of the Poor – through your estate plan, please let us know so that we may acknowledge and thank you. All gifts made through your will, trust or other type of estate plan can be an enduring tribute to a family member or loved one and it is a compassionate way to support the ministry of caring for the elderly poor.

There are a variety of other ways to support the efforts of the
Little Sisters of the Poor:

  • Join a team of volunteers
  • Attend a fund-raising event
  • Make an in-kind donation
  • Solicited Gifts

Your Intentions are in our Prayers
Jeanne Jugan always spoke of “our dear benefactors” to the novices who noticed her enthusiastic admiration for these special members of her religious family. “She told me to thank our benefactors warmly, and that she had not forgotten all that they had done for our dear poor,” related one young professed Sister.

Jeanne Jugan had deep faith toward the benefactors who did and would support their Homes. “What gratitude we owe them! What could we do without them for our dear old people? Let us pray very hard for their intentions,” she would say.

The imprint of Jeanne Jugan's faith and gratitude is carried deeply in the heart of every Little Sister who follows her example and encouragement. “My little ones, we must not merely promise to pray for our benefactors, we must truly pray for them afterwards,” she directed.
